MJ Era Quiz is an independent website about Michael Jackson's music. It has two parts. The first is a short personality quiz that matches your answers to one of his six adult solo album eras, from Off the Wall (1979) to Invincible (2001). The second is a reference library: era guides, a discography, a career timeline, a sourced facts guide, a trivia game and long-form articles on how the records were made and how they performed.
The quiz is the fun part. The library is there because a result is only interesting if you can go and explore the music behind it. Every result page links to the matching era guide, its key songs and the articles that tell its story.
The quiz is for entertainment. It is not a psychological test, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Michael Jackson Estate. You can read exactly how it is scored in How the MJ Era Quiz works.

Jordan Hale is the pen name of the founder of MJ Era Quiz, who writes and fact-checks every article on the site. Jordan focuses on how Michael Jackson's records were made, how they performed on the charts, and why particular songs and performances still hold up.
Jordan Hale is a pen name. We use it so that every article has one consistent, accountable byline. We do not claim personal connections to Michael Jackson, his family or the people who worked with him, and we do not invent first-hand stories. Where an article includes an anecdote, it is attributed to the person who told it, such as Jackson in his 1988 autobiography Moonwalk or Quincy Jones in Q.
How we research and check facts
- Chart facts are checked against Billboard's chart archive, and UK chart facts against the Official Charts Company.
- Certifications are checked against the RIAA Gold & Platinum database; awards against the Recording Academy and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
- Production and recording details come from album liner notes and published accounts by the people involved, including Quincy Jones and engineer Bruce Swedien.
- Worldwide sales and audience figures are labelled as estimates, because published numbers differ.
- Every article lists its sources, explains what each one confirmed, and shows when it was last fact-checked. The most recent full review of the site was completed on September 30, 2026.
- Opinion, such as our era personality descriptions and "Our take" sections, is clearly separated from fact.
