On February 28, 1984, the 26th Annual Grammy Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Michael Jackson walked in with 12 nominations. He walked out with eight trophies, the most any artist had ever won in a single Grammy ceremony. The record he set that night stood untouched for exactly 40 years.
The wins were: Album of the Year for Thriller, Record of the Year for Beat It, Best Pop Vocal Performance Male for Thriller, Best Rock Vocal Performance Male for Beat It, Best R&B Vocal Performance Male for Billie Jean, Best R&B Song for Billie Jean, Best Recording for Children for E.T. How it came together
The Producer of the Year win was shared with Quincy. The other seven were entirely Michael's.
