• 13 Grammy Awards

  Across his solo career Michael won 13 competitive Grammy Awards out of 38 nominations, including a record-tying eight in a single night (1984) for 'Thriller'-era work.

• Two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions

  Michael is one of very few artists inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — once with The Jackson 5 in 1997, and again as a solo artist in 2001.

• First African American on heavy MTV rotation

  When MTV initially resisted playing 'Billie Jean' in 1983, CBS Records reportedly threatened to pull all of its videos. MTV relented, and Michael's videos helped open the channel to Black artists.
